Grenade attack on Kenyan church

epa03416205 An injured child is treated at the Kenyatta National Hospital after a grenade attack on the St Polycarp’s church killed one child and injured six, Nairobi, Kenya, 30 September 2012. Kenya’s Red Cross said one child was killed and at least six people were injured in a grenade attack on a church in an eastern district of the capital Nairobi. The injured in the attack were mostly children attending a Sunday school class at St. Polycarps church in Eastleigh, an area also known as ‘Little Mogadishu’ because of its majority ethnic-Somali population. Kenyan soldiers this weekend drove the Islamist al Shabaab militia from the key port city of Kismayo in neighbouring Somalia. Islamists, believed to be al-Shabaab sympathizers, have carried out numerous kidnappings and grenade attacks on Kenyan soil since last year, killing more than a dozen people. EPA/Daniel Irungu
