According to reports the depot was hit by a rocket attack during a battle between forces from the internationally recognised Government and fighters from Libya Dawn, leading to calls from Libya for international assistance in putting the fire out as it has spread to five oil tanks, and due to the resulting loss of an estimated 1.6 million barrels and a drop in exports potentially effecting global fuel prices, which have lost 45 percent of their value since June 2014.
